honk fest

guide to summer fun

Summer in the Pacific Northwest, it makes all those grey and soggy days worthwhile.  With so many opportunities for adventure, we understand that taking a class might not be on the top of the to-do list.  With that in mind,  here are some of our favorite things to do in the summer sun.

Honk Fest Bring your kazoo and groove as over 25 bands bring music to the streets of Capitol Hill, Fremont and Columbia City, the perfect way to kick off your summer!

U-pick berry farms...going straight to the source.  For the best strawberries and raspberries, the hands-down winner is Harvold Berry Farm (and it looks like the season will be an early one).  For blueberries, the variety and stunning scenery of Bybee Farms will bring you back year after year.

Bicycle Sundays on Lake Washington Boulevard.  For over 50 years, the city of Seattle has closed the boulevard (several Sundays each month) to car traffic to allow for picnics, cruising, a dip in the lake or napping under a tree.  Grab your wheels and take advantage of this time-honored tradition.

Canoe and rowboat rentals at the University of Washington  Paddle through the lilypads and discover a new world of turtles, herons, and more.  With the new light rail station, this adventure is easier than ever!

Ballard Locks and Totem House, not just for tourists.  Bring a blanket, grab a fishwich and the best milkshake in town, and picnic with live music.  When you're finished, marvel at the tenacity and endurance of the tens of thousands of salmon that cross through the ladders each year.

Day Trip to nearby islands...be it Vashon, Bainbridge, or Whidbey, it is easy to be transported to another world with a short ferry ride.  The Whidbey ferry is only 30 miles from downtown Seattle and a quick 15 minute crossing. Bring your dog and spend the day at Double Bluff Beach (off-leash!) building driftwood forts, wading in the surf, or fishing from the shore.

Cheers to the best summer yet!
